HW0128 Scientific Communication I: Student’s Course Guide

This is the coursebook for Scientific Communication I, a one-semester, 2-credit course for students in the School of Biological Sciences and School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. The broad aim of this course is to increase students’ abilities in academic communication related to their studies in science as well as in professional communication. Professional scientists not only need expert knowledge relating to science, but they also need to be able to communicate that knowledge, both to their scientific colleagues and also to the wider community. This coursebook is designed to help improve students’ skills in both areas of communication. Accessibly written and rigorously researched it provides up-to-date science-specific vocabulary and exercises to assist students to master Scientific Communication I.

Please note: As HW0001 English Proficiency is a co-requisite/pre-requisite for this course, please ensure that you have completed the course, signed up for it this semester or obtained exemption from this requirement.

Electronics A Systems Approach 6th Edition

$56.10

Electronics plays a central role in our everyday lives. It is at the heart of almost all of today’s essential technology, from mobile phones to computers and from cars to power stations. As such, all engineers, scientists and technologists need to have a fundamental understanding of this exciting subject, and for many this will just be the beginning. Now in its sixth edition, Electronics: A Systems Approach provides an outstanding introduction to this fast-moving and important field. Comprehensively revised and updated to cover the latest developments in the world of electronics, the text continues to use Neil Storey’s established and well-respected systems approach. It introduces the basic concepts first before progressing to a more advanced analysis, enabling you to contextualise what a system is designed to achieve before tackling the intricacies of designing or analysing its various components with confidence. This book is accompanied by a website which contains over 100 video tutorials to help explain key concepts from the book and interactive quizzes to test your knowledge. Advanced Nanodielectrics: Fundamentals and Applications

This book is the translated version of Advanced Nanodielectrics: Fundamentals and Applications, which was published by the Investigating R&D Committee on Advanced Polymer Nanocomposite Dielectrics of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ). The Japanese version is a winner of the IEEJ Outstanding Technical Report Award (2016). Nanocomposites are generally composed of host and guest materials. This book deals with the combination of a polymer as a host with an inorganic filler as a guest. It provides a detailed coverage on the processing and electrical properties of nanocomposites. It gives special consideration to the surface modification of particles, theoretical aspects of the interface, and computer simulation to help the reader develop an understanding of the characteristics of nanocomposites. Moreover, it discusses potential applications of nanocomposites in electric power and electronics sectors. The book is a definitive and practical handbook for beginners as well as experts.

Think DSP: Digital Signal Processing in Python

“Think DSP: Digital Signal Processing in Python” is an introduction to signal processing and system analysis using a computational approach. The premise of this book (like the others in the Think X series) is that if you know how to program, you can use that skill to learn other things. By the end of the first chapter, you'll be able to decompose a sound into its harmonics, modify the harmonics, and generate new sounds. Subsequent chapters follow a logical progression that develops the important ideas incrementally, with a focus on applications.
