Food Policy in the United States: An Introduction 2nd Edition
This new edition offers a timely update to the leading textbook dedicated to all aspects of U.S. food policy. The update accounts for experience with policy changes in the 2014 Farm Bill and prospects for the next Farm Bill, the publication of the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the removal of Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status for trans fats, the collapse of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) treaty, stalled child nutrition reauthorization legislation, reforms in food-labeling policy, the consequences of the 2016 presidential election and many other developments. The author is an agricultural economist with many years of experience in the nonprofit advocacy sector, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and as a professor at Tufts University. Lee Kuan Yew was born in 1923, a time when Singapore was under British rule. After experiencing the Japanese Occupation of Singapore, he travelled to England to study Law. Mr Lee’s legal career in Singapore was marked by increasing political involvement. Together with a group of like-minded individuals, he formed the People’s Action Party (PAP) in 1954. Following the PAP’s victory in the 1959 Legislative Assembly general elections, Mr Lee became the first Prime Minister of Singapore, at the age of 35. He held this position until 1990. After stepping down from the premiership, he remained in the Cabinet until 2011, serving as Senior Minister and subsequently as Minister Mentor.
Mr Lee oversaw Singapore’s transformation from a Third World country to a First World country. This remarkable achievement has long prompted admiration and debate. About the Author
Danny Dorling is the Halford Mackinder Professor of Geography, Oxford. He is the honorary president of the Society of Cartographers. In 2009 he was awarded the Gold Award of the Geographical Association and the Back Award of the Royal Geographical Society. He appears regularly in TV and radio, writes for the Guardian, New Statesman and other papers. He advises government and the office for national statistics. He is the author of books including: 10 Billion; So You Think You Know About Britain? and Injustice.
