Radiogenic Isotope Geology 3rd Edition
The third edition of Radiogenic Isotope Geology examines revolutionary changes in geochemical thinking that have occurred over the past fifteen years. Extinct-nuclide studies on meteorites have called into question fundamental geochemical models of the Earth, while new dating methods have challenged conventional views of Earth history. At the same time, the problem of global warming has raised new questions about the causes of past and present climate change. In the new edition, these and other recent issues are evaluated in their scholarly and historical context, so readers can understand the development of current ideas. Controversial theories, new analytical techniques, classic papers, and illustrative case studies all come under scrutiny in this book, providing an accessible introduction for students and critical commentary for researchers.

The environmental life cycle of a product consists of all the stages, from raw material extraction through production and use to waste management. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), then, is the assessment of the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle. The holistic perspective that LCA provides on the environmental performance of products has made it a central concept for both environmental management in industry and environmental policy-making in public government. This is a textbook on LCA for those who want to learn the practice of LCA, e.g. environmental engineers, environmental managers and eco-designers. The title paraphrases Douglas Adams’ famous story “The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, in which the machine Deep Thought after seven and a half million years of computing come up with ’42’ as the answer to the ‘great Question of Life, the Universe and Everything’. Expectations on LCA are often similar – simple answer to difficult environmental dilemmas, and the result often as incomprehensible as 42, unless one knows how to interpret LCA methodology and results. The book is organised in three parts covering LCA methodology, LCA applications and exercises on LCA. Two introductory chapters give a general overview of the LCA concept and its historical development. After that, LCA methodology is described in detail in six chapters. Different fields of LCA application are covered in five subsequent chapters. Since the aim of the book is to teach the execution of LCA, there are also a number of exercises. Smaller exercises train different aspects of LCA methodology and prepare for the larger ones, ten complete LCA exercise projects.
For one-semester courses in Introductory Remote Sensing as well as Introductory Airphoto Interpretation. This widely adopted book introduces the fundamentals of remote sensing from an earth resource (versus engineering) perspective. Emphasis is on turning remote sensing data into useful spatial biophysical or socio-economic information that can be used to make decisions.
This book is the first to profile the unique epiphytic plant communities found in Singapore. The canopies of tropical trees are often festooned with luxuriant masses of delicate ferns, orchids and mistletoes; these veritable aerial gardens are one of the most biodiverse habitats on the planet. Yet, despite their prevalence in tropical urban landscapes, many of these fascinating aerial plants remain unappreciated and misunderstood.
The first section of this book provides a concise scientific introduction to the biology of epiphytes and mistletoes, including their taxonomy, life-cycles, adaptive strategies and interactions with their hosts and arboreal fauna. The second section serves as a field guide for identifying all of the common epiphytes and mistletoes found in Singapore.
- Provides a comprehensive reference for the identification and management of epiphytes and mistletoes in Singapore.
- Provides basic information on the biology of these plants, with a focus on colour photo profiles of all common species.
- Beautifully illustrated with large format colour photographs, rendering the overall impression less text-heavy and more readable.
- Serves as an accessible and informative field reference guide for horticultural professionals, as well as the general public.
Geography on the Edge Level Two focuses on the world of geography from within New Zealand and in overseas settings across the globe. The book aims to provide students with an understanding of the world we live in today: an understanding of a world in a state of rapid change and an interconnected world. Geography on the Edge Level Two will engage students with the world they live in and excite and inspire them to look further into the world of geography. The book content is related to both externally and internally assessed achievement standards.
