Networks of the Brain
Over the last decade, the study of complex networks has expanded across diverse scientific fields. Increasingly, science is concerned with the structure, behavior, and evolution of complex systems ranging from cells to ecosystems. In Networks of the Brain, Olaf Sporns describes how the integrative nature of brain function can be illuminated from a complex network perspective. Highlighting the many emerging points of contact between neuroscience and network science, the book serves to introduce network theory to neuroscientists and neuroscience to those working on theoretical network models. Sporns emphasizes how networks connect levels of organization in the brain and how they link structure to function, offering an informal and nonmathematical treatment of the subject. Networks of the Brain provides a synthesis of the sciences of complex networks and the brain that will be an essential foundation for future research.
About the Author
Olaf Sporns is Distinguished Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Adjunct Professor in the School of Informatics and Computing, Codirector of the Indiana University Network Science Institute, a member of the programs in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science, and Head of the Computational Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at Indiana University Bloomington.
Sturkie’s Avian Physiology 6th Edition
Sturkie’s Avian Physiology is the classic comprehensive single volume on the physiology of domestic as well as wild birds. The Sixth Edition is thoroughly revised and updated, and features several new chapters with entirely new content on such topics as migration, genomics and epigenetics. Chapters throughout have been greatly expanded due to the many recent advances in the field. The text also covers the physiology of flight, reproduction in both male and female birds, and the immunophysiology of birds. The Sixth Edition, like the earlier editions, is a must for anyone interested in comparative physiology, poultry science, veterinary medicine, and related fields. This volume establishes the standard for those who need the latest and best information on the physiology of birds. * Includes new chapters on endocrine disruptors, magnetoreception, genomics, proteomics, mitochondria, control of food intake, molting, stress, the avian endocrine system, bone, the metabolic demands of migration, behavior and control of body temperature * Features extensively revised chapters on the cardiovascular system, pancreatic hormones, respiration, pineal gland, pituitary gland, thyroid, adrenal gland, muscle, gastro-intestinal physiology, incubation, circadian rhythms, annual cycles, flight, the avian immune system, embryo physiology and control of calcium. * Stands out as the only comprehensive, single volume devoted to bird physiology * Offers a full consideration of both blood and avian metabolism on the companion website (http://booksite.elsevier.com/ 9780124071605). Tables feature hematological and serum biochemical parameters together with circulating concentrations of glucose in more than 200 different species of wild birds.
Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology 10th Global Edition
$78.00Were you looking for the book with access to MasteringA&P? This product is the book alone, and does NOT come with access to MasteringA&P. Buy Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology with MasteringA&P access card 10e (ISBN 9781292057606) if you need access to Mastering as well, and save money on this brilliant resource. For two-semester A&P Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology helps students succeed in the challenging A&P course with an easy-to-understand narrative, precise visuals, and steadfast accuracy. Every chapter of the Tenth Edition includes one- and two-page Spotlight Figures that seamlessly integrate text and visuals to guide students through complex topics and processes. These highly visual presentations incorporate, for select topics, the “visual approach” that the same author team created in their Visual Anatomy & Physiology book. New Clinical Cases open every chapter and get students thinking about the chapter content in the context of a personal compelling patient story. This program presents a better teaching and learning experience-for you and your students. It provides: *Text-art Integration: The popular one- and two-page Spotlight Figures and other figure types seamlessly integrate text and visuals to guide students through complex topics and processes. Students study the Spotlight Figures in the book, and then instructors can assign them in MasteringA&P. *Story-based Clinical Content: Motivate students for their future careers with the new Clinical Cases. Students read the Clinical Cases in the book, and then instructors can assign them, which are also assignable in MasteringA&P. *Time-saving Navigation and Study Tools: Enable students to better navigate difficult A&P topics This product is the book alone, and does NOT come with access to MasteringA&P.. This title can be supported by MasteringA&P, an online homework and tutorial system which can be used by students for self-directed study or fully integrated into an instructor’s course.
