The Paleontology of Gran Barranca
Gran Barranca in Patagonia exposes the most complete sequence of middle Cenozoic paleofaunas in South America. It is the only continuous continental fossil record of the Southern Hemisphere between 42 and 18 million years ago, when climates at high latitudes transitioned from warm humid to cold dry conditions. This volume presents the geochronology of the fossil mammal sequence and a compilation of the latest studies of the stratigraphy, sedimentology, mammals, plants, invertebrates and trace fossils. It is also the first detailed treatment of the vertebrate faunal sequence at Gran Barranca, providing important new evidence about biotic diversity and evolution in the native species. A revised taxonomy allows a reevaluation of the origination and extinction of herbivorous mammals, marsupials, and xenarthrans, and the earliest occurrence of rodents and primates in southern latitudes. Academic researchers and advanced students in vertebrate paleontology, geochronology, sedimentology and paleoprimatology will value this wealth of new information.

Measurement is an essential activity in every branch of technology and science and as such forms part of degree, diploma and certificate courses in engineering and applied science. The fourth edition of this respected and successful text has been extensively extended and updated to include new developments in measurement devices and technology. It provides a coherent and integrated approach to the topic, covering main techniques and devices used, together with relevant theory and applications, for both mechanical and electronic systems.~It is divided into three parts, covering the general principles, followed by the typical elements of measurement systems, and then moving on to current and emerging specialised techniques which have important industrial applications. ~Key features:*New chapter on Intelligent Multivariable Measurement Systems *Incorporates increased coverage on solid state sensors*New material on structure, software and applications of microcontrollers*A completely revised chapter on Data Presentation*Additional problems have been added at a basic and introductory level*Solutions manual~This book is aimed at students taking modules in measurement and instrumentation as part of degree courses in instrumentation/control, mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, electronic, chemical engineering and applied physics as well as students on HNC/HND and foundation degree courses on measurement and instrumentation. This text is also suitable for professional and technical engineers working in the measurement and control discipline.~John P. Bentley is Emeritus Professor of Measurement Systems at the University of Teesside
Small Animal Internal Medicine for Veterinary Technicians and Nurses is the first comprehensive resource on internal medicine written for the veterinary technician. Organized by body system, each chapter discusses pertinent diseases, from clinical signs, diagnostic testing, and prevalence to treatment options and nursing considerations. Published in association with the Academy of Internal Medicine for Veterinary Technicians, this book offers both a thorough grounding in the foundations of internal medicine for students and new veterinary technicians and detailed, advanced information suitable for experienced veterinary technicians.
Coverage includes an overview of neurological disorders and discussion of the surgical, emergency, and nursing considerations for each condition. This complete reference, which includes a companion website with quizzes, images, and video clips, is essential reading for veterinary technician students, practicing technicians, and those studying for the AIMVT specialty exam.
The intricacies of the human nervous system are of great intellectual and practical interest and importance and are the subject of a large number of life sciences and medical school courses worldwide.
The Brain Atlas: A Visual Guide to the Human Central Nervous System truly integrates modern neuroscience with clinical practice and is now completely revised and updated in its Third Edition. Now more than ever, it is the best available visual guide to human neuroanatomy for undergraduate and graduate medical students, clinicians and psychologists.
It flows logically from surface anatomy to cross-sections, and then on to regional histology, ending with diagrams of the major neuronal systems responsible for the brain’s magnificent array of functions. The book’s five sections cover Background Information, The Brain and Its Blood, Brain Slices, Histological Sections, and Pathways.
The Brain Atlas: A Visual Guide to the Human Central Nervous System, Third Edition features:
- A large number of new images reflecting the latest updates in imaging equipment and techniques
- Unrivalled treatment of brain pathways, including meticulous blood supply maps
- Systematic use of magnetic resonance images side-by-side with corresponding brain slices
- A direct labeling system, including an alphabetical list of terms for each image
Thoroughly updated for currency and with exciting new practical examples throughout, this popular text provides the tools, practice, and basic knowledge for success in the biotech workforce. With its balanced coverage of basic cell and molecular biology, fundamental techniques, historical accounts, new advances, and hands-on applications, the Third Edition emphasizes the future of biotechnology and the biotechnology student’s role in that future. Two new features-Forecasting the Future, and Making a Difference-along with several returning hallmark features, support the new focus.
